Virginia Radio Controlled Helicopter Association

The Virginia Radio Controlled Helicopter Association (VARCHA) was formed in 2008 by, Joe Coppola, Clay Klemm and Daniel Maso, a few friends who enjoyed building and flying R/C Helicopters. At that time, all of the model clubs in the Northern Virginia area were primarily airplane-focused, so we was decided that a club be formed exclusively for radio controlled helicopters.

While it may be easy to start a club, it is not so easy to find a field to fly at. Luckily, after some research and a few connections VARCHA was able to secure the rights to fly at a field owned by Luck Stone Corporation in Bealeton, VA.

Once the rights to the field were secured, the process was started to acquire sanctioning from the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). This process was completed in the spring of 2008 and VARCHA now operates under AMA Charter #4842.
