Learn to Fly
Your Place to Learn
As you may know, helicopters are one of the most challenging models to learn to fly. Luckily today we have many avenues for learning, including computer simulators, coaxial helicopters and buddy boxes.
For the brand new pilot, nothing beats an hobby quality coaxial helicopter. These little helis are great for learning the basics of flight and more importantly the varying orientations, like nose-in, side-in, etc.
Once a pilot has mastered one of these, it's recommended that you invest in a computer simulator. While you may think that the money would be better spent investing in a real bird, this great tool, will pay for itself 10 times over, by saving you from many of the new pilot crashes.
After getting comfortable with a simulator it's time for real airtime. Many of today's pilots choose to start with a 450 or 500 size helicopter. While these are relatively inexpensive helis, they are not necessarily the easiest to learn on. In the case of learning, bigger is definitely better... a .30 or .50 size heli would be best.
When learning to fly, much of your time is spent hovering, while this may seem boring at times, these skills are necessary to master before moving into forward flight. However, when you are starting out doing it in real life can be quite difficult, especially when you factor in nerves. Well VARCHA has a solution for the newbie pilot.
In order to assist new pilots VARCHA owns a training helicopter. This heli is available to all new pilots that are members of VARCHA and can be flown with the assistance of one of our Pilot Instructors. With a complete buddy box setup our training helicopter allows the new pilot to get comfortable with flying "on training wheels" since at any time the instructor can "take over".
